Financial curiousity
So I had a thought this morning. Without going into specifics, we have overdraft on our checking account. I went through my records to see approximately how much of "the bank's money" we have used so far this year to date. A rough estimate is over $3000 ( let's leave it at that shall we! ). We get charged interest every time we use it and an overdraft fee if I do a calculation boo-boo and we go a bit over the limit.
So far it has cost us $26.18 to use that much of the banks money. Not bad!
Okay so I am weird about financial stuff, but I had one of those "I wonder...." moments this morning and decided to satisfy my curiousity. So we live in red ink a lot. It's easier to add in the cheque book than to subtract!

Van Halen
The concert totally rocked! I think I am still deaf but it was great. Sammy seems to have gotten over his hatred of the old DLR songs because he managed to sing a few of them. They started off with "Jump" actually. At one point just Sammy was on stage and he did "Eagles Fly" ( or is it "Where Eagles Fly"? I always forget. ) and "55" of course.
Eddie did a fanastic 25 minute guitar solo. The guy is amazing! He must have to get cortisone shots in his fingers once in a while. Alex did a 5 minute drum solo that left him dripping with sweat. Quite an aerobic workout I guess. I kind of have a thing for drummers. If I was a groupie I would probably want to do the drummer.
The encore songs were: "You Really Got Me", "Panama", and "When It's Love".
Meredith you would have loved it!

Croptoberfest
Can't wait for tonight! Me, LB and my sister K are going to a scrapbook evening, from 5:30 to 11:30. I am going to start working on my photos from my Australia trip in March/April of 1993. The 93-94 album is nearly done, except for Auz. At some point I have one page to finish in the album of 2000-2001. For for now my stack of photos about 5 cm thick from Auz take priority.
For the first time I am going to try and use the ruled pages. Carrie ( our Creative Memories rep ) is bringing me a package of them tonight. I have a journal that I wrote while in Perth that I am going to transfer to the ruled pages in the scrapbook ( embellished with suitable photos and stickers of course ). So I hope to have a fun and productive night.
In other news, we are going to see Van Halen tomorrow night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Toni's boss bought tickets for various people in the office that wanted to go. We are also going out for dinner and Toni and the other employees decided that we will all chip in take care of the boss's dinner bill. Roland has shelled out at least $1000 for tickets so it's the least we can do. Dinner is at The Cannery restaurant in east Vancouver. The concert is at the Coliseum ( surprisingly it's not at GM Place ) so we picked a restaurant that is relatively close. I think I will probably have cioppino. Their's is really good.
I probably won't be doing another post until at least Sunday afternoon, so I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Weaver Creek field trip
The Grade One classes from Kyra's school have been studying salmon and we went to Weaver Creek Salmon Spawning Channel today. I hope this link works.

This shows pretty much what we saw today. We also went to the Chehalis River Salmonid Hatchery just down the road from Weaver Creek. The creek feeds the river. At the hatchery are the holding tanks for eggs and fry. There was also a big pond for keeping Chum salmon in. I guess to hold them for egg recovery or something.

Memories of Annette
Since Annette is away for a couple of days she has asked her blog-readers to answer the following question. She freely admits it's a shameless plug, but she's had her blog for a year now and wants to know if people remember anything.

Well Annette I have only been reading your blog for a month or so and I can't really remember anything from it! I remember plenty of things from various bulletin boards though. Like you encouraged me when I started Winter Queen and wasn't sure of my lilac colour conversion. And when we all did a Google search for our names and mine came up for a meeting in Mesa Arizona that some other "Kelley Mueller" was supposed to go to and didn't. You teased me about me not coming to see you and I said something like "sorry but I was too busy missing the meeting".
I do enjoy reading your blog though and I can't make any recommendations of what I would like to see. Actually I think it would be rude of me to do so anyway. It's YOUR blog, post about whatever tickles your fancy!

This weather pixie thing.
I like my pixie but I am confused by her clothing. It does not seem to match the temperature. My friend Bav has a pixie that likes to wear even skimpier clothing than mine does. She must really be freezing!
I am typing this at 10:32 am. I just looked at my blog and the pixie's weather update is from 9:00 Pacific Daylight Time. She is wearing a long sleeve ( could possibly be 3/4 length actually ) shirt and jeans. The weather info says partly sunny, 11C and wind of 3 knots. I don't know what knots are as compared to km/h but it was pretty damn cold in my face on the way to take Kyra to school today. And at 8:00 this morning I was not running around in jeans and a shirt. I had a swearshirt on, my raincoat and leather gloves.
At night my pixie never seems to wear a jacket either.

Very important scrapbooking.
Well only so I can go ahead with original Plan A at Croptoberfest this Friday. I was all set to work on March '93. With this particular album I started at the back and I am working in reverse chronological order. I had organized my photos of the early '90s ages ago. Today I discovered Toni's photos of the early '90s. I was actually looking for the bag of mittens and stuff but it was lucky I stumbled across the pictures. There are photos of his of 4 separate events over the spring and summer of '93 that I already scrapped and have in the album. Fortunately I can easily insert an extra page or 2 for the rest of the photos. Tonight I did one more page side of the Abbotsford Airshow.
I will pretend to be the Clarica agent now - we got married in '95 so up until then there were no "our" photos because there was no "our" camera, just mine and his. Sometimes we took pictures of the same event we were both at. By '94 when we got engaged there started to be more "our" photos happening.

Ruminations on beer
Last night my uncle brought Okanagon Springs' newest release to our Oktoberfest. It's called "Helles" and it's pretty good. I am drinking one right now. Basically it's their "light" beer. By light that means is only 4% alcohol instead of 6%. Our favorite is Okie Springs "1516" and the Helles tastes exactly the same to me. Toni bought a 4 pack of Warsteiner and I got to enjoy one of those last night. One must have actual Deutsch beer at Oktoberfest! Prost!
Sunday Brunch, etc.
So far today I have been busy but I thought I would take a few minutes and do the brunch thing. Last night we had Oktoberfest so I spent the morning tidying up. I also redid my pantry cupboard with my new Tupperware Shelf Smart stuff. Now onto the brunch:

Fabric. Leather is either too hot or too cold. I have a cheap sofa and loveseat because I have small children

We could really use book shelves in various places, but that's it. We just bought new furniture in July when we moved into this house.

Average
I was thinking about this in bed last night. ( I know, I know, nothing better to do there! ) My life is pretty average, but in a way that I am happy about.
- House - not too big or fancy, just big enough and nice enough
- Kids - one of each
- Pet - a dog. I suppose to be even more average we should have a cat too
- Marriage - 9 1/2 years sounds like an average length of time to be married
- Money - hubby makes a decent salary, but we are not rich and that is fine with me
- Family - kind of boring, no drama, everyone gets along. We have a lot of fun together.
- Hobbies - cross stitch, scrapbooking. Kind of average. I am going to teach myself how to machine quilt
- Personal - height is a bit short, but otherwise average, eyes and hair are average brown, weight is a bit heavy but lots of people can say that so I am average there too.
- Intelligence - somewhere between Einstein and the Village Idiot
So my life is pretty nice just how it is. I try to look on the bright side, try to be nice to people, I only smoke cigars sometimes, I occasionally hit the sauce a bit too hard but not too often, and I obey the law ( okay I jaywalk, but that's not so bad ).

So now it's getting smoked.
Fish I mean. Toni took last years' stash out of the freezer ( one Coho, some pink and some chum ) and put some salt/sugar cure on it for overnight. Tomorrow it will be rinsed off and put back in the fridge uncovered so it can dry out a bit. On Saturday he will smoke it.

Hips, or "It's a bugger getting old".
This morning I had to get up and have an ibuprofen. After yesterday's gorgeous sun and high of 22C, today is rather cloudy. No kidding! My right hip knew that before I even looked out the window this morning. I had trouble sleeping last night. The joint felt as if it was getting stuck. If I lay on my back it feels as if my hip is going to dislocate downwards, ie. the bone falls out of the socket and drops on the bed.
I know, I should go to the doctor. I am afraid of being told I have arthritis. Almost every woman in my family has it so my odds aren't terrific. My Dad has bursitis in his hip and has to get a cortisone shot. My hip has been buggin me off and on for months and it makes aweful clicking noises. Having Dad tell me about his hip has got me thinking about mine.....

Computer fax morons
Okay some idiot had their computer set to fax me this morning. There are 2 things wrong with that scenario though, the first being that we don't have a fax machine. The second of all was THAT IT WAS QUARTER TO FIVE IN THE MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!
A phone ringing at 4:45 am does not inspire light-hearted thoughts. It's more like "What the fuck?" as you wake up, followed by "Oh great, who died?". Then to answer said phone and hear fax static, well that is guaranteed to put me a good mood. The stupid phone rang 3 more times and I got 3 messages of fax static. I finally unplugged it.
You would think after 4 times someone would figure out, "Hey the fax isn't going through!"
Those of you in Eastern Time trying to send a fax at 7:45 in the morning DOUBLE CHECK THE PHONE NUMBER FIRST DIPSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a fishing widow
It's a gorgeous day and Toni is down at the river. Fortunately it will be dark soon and he will be coming home. On Monday morning he caught a spring salmon finally. He said when he got home that "one more spring and that should do it". Dare I hope he got it today?
At least in a couple more weeks Daylight Savings will end and it will be too dark to fish ( and the fish will be gone ). He's chucked a few back in lately that look like they have been through a ringer. I think the salmon runs' days are numbered.

I stitched!
For the first time in a couple of weeks I dragged out my cross stitch and did an hour on "Angel of the Sea". I just haven't been motivated for hobbies lately, except for finishing my scrap book of 2000 and 2001. At least that is something accomplished.
I'm not sure why I haven't wanted to stitch. The angel is a very pretty design and easy to stitch. Maybe I was just burned out. Anyway, now I only have a half hour to go on her current
5-hour rotation slot. Next up: Alaska Sampler.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Happy Turkey Day! Hope everyone has a good one. Last night we demolished most of a yummy bird at my folks' place. It seems that Kyle REALLY likes cranberry sauce. He had thirds.
On the way home we noticed that the Abbotsford Highway Patrol was on the war path. The Abby detachment is usually pretty good, but last night was exceptional. Traffic was reasonably heavy through Aldergrove/Clearbrook. At one point some guy from Alberta goes zooming past us. What's the rush buddy? You aren't gonna make the border by midnight anyway, so what's the hurry? A few minutes later a ghost car pulls out up ahead and nails someone. Toni says "I hope that was Alberta". It wasn't though. A few minutes later ANOTHER ghost car gets someone else ( wow, 2 cops on the same stretch of Hwy 1 within 2kms of one another! ) and this time it was Alberta. That was our giggle of the night.
Toni went fishing again this morning and came home with a spring. He's hacking it up right now. According to him "4 million people were at the river". Gee, pretty good of him to catch a fish with that many lines in the water!

Deep thoughts
Well actually I don't have any. At least not right now. I know some people say that they never read blogs because they are too superficial. I admit to that. But to paraphrase Leslie Gore..

I officially love my oven!
Okay so that maybe isn't too exciting for most people. However I have to mention the horror of the oven in my previous house and you will understand. I could not bake muffins or cookies or anything. I think the temperature gauge was off or something. Cookies could not be baked for 10 minutes at 350 on the middle rack. No, the cookies needed 325 on the next rack up for about 7 minutes. The entire 7 minutes I would have to stare through the widow of the oven and look for the faintest hint of golden to appear and then whip them out at lightning speed and hope they weren't TOO burnt on the bottom. Parchment paper helped, but only slightly.
My current oven is one of those Whirlpool ones with the flat cook-top. I made gingersnaps yesterday. So I used-2 cookie sheets covered with parchment paper, 12 balls of dough on each sheet, oven at 350, rack in the middle, timer on for 10 minutes. I went out into the living room to read and wait. After 10 mintues I took them out of the oven and they are absolutely perfect.
No fiddling with timing or temperature or anything! I can bake and follow the instructions and things will work! There is a God, and his name is Whirlpool!

Fish again
Well Toni was at it again, this time in the pouring rain. Silly man! ( This is fun how exactly? )
He did come away with another chum salmon. A 10-pounder this time.
If he gets a cold I don't want to hear about it. He puts dry clothes on and then complains that his bum is cold. Naturally I am expected to warm it up! At the time of the complaint he is wearing a sweatshirt and SHORTS!
Another topic - Later on this evening he tells me that scientists have found out that pregnancy robs a woman's brain of a certain chemical that helps in memory retention. My answer, "I don't need science to tell me that!" I have 2 children and most days I am lucky to remember my own name.

My Hubby, the fishing ambassdor
Toni went to his usual spot yesterday and encountered 14 Danes. The men belong to a fishing club in Copenhagen. Every month they put in money and when the pot gets big enough, they use it to go on a fishing vacation together. This year they wanted to come and fish the "famous" Vedder River. Gee, I didn't know it was that famous! They are staying here for 2 weeks and fishing every day. Toni is talking of inviting them over on Saturday for Thanksgiving dinner...

So this morning I did the good dead for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. My sister and 2 of my friends came too.
I mostly did a brisk walk, with some jogging once in a while. My cold is still hanging around and I found I was coughing more if I ran for too long. I still finished the 5 km route in 53 minutes and 45 seconds. Last year I took me just over an hour.
So far the Frazer Valley has raised over $186, 000.
My friend LB ran the whole way. Way to go!

Sunday brunch a day early
1) Have you ever ridden a horse?
Yes. We used to go on trail rides in Manning Park. I wonder if the Lightning Lake Stables are still there?
2) What is your favorite horse story or movie?
"The Man From Snowy River"
3) If you had the means, would you own a horse?
Probably not. I am not a huge horse fan and they are a lot of work.
4) Do you think it would be neat if we went back to everyone travelingby horse and buggy or just an inconvenience?
I think it would be a pain in the behind, literally!

No, but that might be kind of cool!

So it's October...
...and I find myself unmotivated to do any work on hobbies. The beginning of the month often gives me an energized, clean slate, sort of feeling. I think I am just burned out from birthday after birthday in Sept.
I have the Angel of the Sea languishing in the closet with only half of a 5 hour rotation slot done. I dragged out my scrapbook and have done one page. The next page sits around with some circles punched out for the border and that's it. At least when I go to Croptoberfest on the 22nd I will forced to work on it. I think I just wanted to play with my carry-all....
