Wondering....

Well since this blog is called "Wonderings", let's have some:

Wondering what to be for friend LH's Halloween party. I know I have time, but days sneak up on me with alarming regularity.

Wondering if Weezer is really as okay at school as teacher says she is and how she seems to be. Probably, she is since she is a great kid and smart. It's Kaiser I will have to worry about....

Wondering if I am crazy or just doing menopause early. Am I shallow and oblivious or obsessed and paranoid? Maybe that's a Pisces thing?

Wondering exactly how I want to do the scrapbook page of Weezer and Cay playing in leaves. How many leaf punch outs ( thanks sis ) are too many?

Wondering if the moms at Weezer's school think I am odd. Honestly just a wondering here, I am merely curious, not worried! People who know me well say I am odd. Kind of a complement.

No luck today

Honey came up empty today, no fish. He fought with a 20 lb ( approx. ) spring for 15 minutes but it broke the hook. He met a couple of the guys again today that he was fishing with yesterday. One guy said, "You shouldn't have left yesterday when you did. After you were gone I caught 2 springs and a Coho". Honey was a bit bummed about that...

My fisherman

So hubby caught a 13 lb chum salmon yesterday in the Vedder River. He's going to try his luck again today after work. Last night he filleted the fish and put 4 bags in the freezer. Not bad for a few dinners.

I know some people sneer up their noses at chum but it's actually pretty good marinated and grilled. It also holds together nicely for chowder or fish pie. We have a chunk of last year's fish that will definitely become chowder very soon.

He said there were some guys catching a few springs ( otherwise know as Chinook ) yesterday but he didn't say if they were red ones or white ones. Last year we had some of each. Pinks are good too but you can only catch them in odd numbered years.

Ugh, sick.

So much for escaping the cold that's going around. The kids are a bit sniffly too. I seem to have it full throttle, including a "fry an egg on my face" fever that hits around 4 pm. If the battery in my thermometer wasn't dead I wouldn't have to guess my temperature, but I'm thinking around 101 F at least.

Good thing all of Kyra's birthday activities are done. She has a party to go to on Saturday though. I am supposed to be doing the CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday morning. Hopefully I won't have to hack and cough my way around the 5 km course.

My little girl is 6 today!

Happy Birthday Kyra!!!!

It is nice that the school district has professional day today. Toni took the day off and made Kyra pancakes for her birthday breakfast. Tonight we are going out for fish and chips, her choice.

Kyle gave her the Sorry! game for her birthday and we gave her a radio/alarm/clock/CD player. She is thrilled that she can listen to music in her room and have an alarm "so I can get up for school Mommy."

Tomorrow is her birthday party at the gymnastics club and on Sunday the family is coming over. Going to be a busy weekend. You only turn 6 once though!

OUCH

Guess what I did yesterday morning? Slipped at the top of my stairs and proceeded to bump down several of them, mostly on my right butt cheek. I felt mostly fine yesterday. This morning it felt like Toni had backed over me with the truck.

As I was bumping my way down I grabbed the railing to stop myself. So of course my whole right side got jarred and hurts like hell today. Fortunately to type I mostly just move my hand.

I suppose since I have a flight of 13 or 14 stairs and this is "grace of a water buffalo" me we are talking about, it was only a matter of time before I fell. I did think that the first time would be because the dog knocked me down. Guess I was wrong!

Creative Memories Carry-All

Oh my God!

I am in love. I just organized my new carry-all. Oh the room in that thing! I haven't even used some of the pockets yet. ( Obviously I need more stuff )

Best of all I used Memory Keeper points and got $50 off. I can't wait for Croptoberfest on Oct. 22nd! Some of the reps here in Chilliwack rent a church gym and we go at it from 5:00 until midnight. Maybe I can finish 2001.....

Terry Fox Run

So my friend and I did the 6 km route this morning. Fortunately the weather co-operated beautifully. We had fun walking along, ogling her hunky neighbour and his dog, and dissing our MP who was in the run. He seems pretty fit, maybe he runs around Ottawa when parliament is in session.

Next year we must remember to bring the dogs. I was worried about there being too many people but it wasn't too bad. Angus would love it I think.

I must hand in my donations next week. Dad is going to give me some cash on Sunday and then I will go turn it in.

My apologies for a somewhat vague post. The pain in my knees is affecting my brain.....

I am the slave of laundry

Oooooh, everyone in the family needs a smack upside the head!

We did yard work earlier and got a little dirty. I casually mention to hubby that I should wash the close in "hot" since they were a little dirtier than usual. The response, "So that's how all my clothes get shrunk, you wash them in hot/hot." Grrrrrr ( to quote my son ).

For starters the washer has 4 settings cold/cold, warm/cold, warm/warm, and hot/cold. If you had done laundry more than once since we moved in you would know that! So the ONE time you did do laundry I had happened to have used the hot/cold cycle ( probably the ONLY time I've used it in 3 months ) and you had to change it. Oh darn!

Kyra is complaining of no clean pants. Well up until this morning's shopping trip I had no laundry soap for 2 days. Gee maybe I am trying to save money so you can have your 6th birthday party next week, you ungrateful little thing!

I am sorely tempted to make everyone do their own laundry and see how they like it......

Nancy Drew

Just had a nostalgia trip. Last weekend my Dad brought over a box full of my old Nancy Drew books. I had all of the hard cover ones when I was a kid. I think I have up to #56 or #57, I'll have to unload them all from the box to know for sure.

I just read #41, "The Clue of the Whistling Bagpipes". It was fun reading it again with an adult perspective. The books are still good stories, even though the plot is a little more transparent than when I was 12!

When Kyra gets old enough to read them I will give them to her.

Okay so I am lost...

I have nothing to do anymore!

Well, that isn't strictly true, but time seems to hang a bit while Kyra is at school all day. I feel like I should be going somewhere by around 10:30 or so.

Today we walked like usual and when we got home Kyle went off to play in peace and quiet without his big sister telling him what to do, and I did various chores.

Guess what? When I was done it was only 10:15! Kyra did not need to be picked up for 4 hours. In desperation I took Kyle for a walk and out for lunch, in spite of fine drizzle and grey clouds.

Last year in Kindergarten I always wished for more time. Yeah, yeah. "Be careful what you wish for."

Weekend is here! ( almost )

Tonight I am having a Tupperware party. It's been a while since any of the regulars had one, so I volunteered. I'm not really sure what I need though. Christine is bringing the new catologue so maybe there will be something interesting.

Tomorrow the kids are back at the Leisure Centre for another round of swimming lessons. We took the summer off. Their classes are at the same time, 10:30. Wow, we don't have to hang around the pool for an hour and a half!

On Sunday Kristi is doing Trevor's first birthday here at our house. We have more space than they do so Trevor gets to come to Auntie's house. Should be a good party. It will be nice to see some family members who we don't get to see all the time.

Unhistorical facts

Okay, I admit to being annoyed about something minor, and I am going to vent a bit. I just finished reading "Death at Glamis Castle" by Robin Paige ( a husband and wife writing team actually ). The book was a not bad Victorian mystery. During the narrative there were occasional notations at the bottom of the page about actual historical characters. That is fine, but if you are going to write a novel like that, please make sure your facts are straight!

At one point "Prince Eddy" is mentioned ( the oldest son of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra ) as having been betrothed to a Princess May before his death in 1892. I was reading along thinking "oh, I didn't know that" until the historical note at the bottom of the page said that after Eddy's death, May married his younger brother George. That was commonly done in royal circles and is how Henry VIII wound up married to Catharine of Aragon.

Now actual facts - Eddy's younger brother eventually became King George V in 1910 after Edward VII died. George's queen was MARY, not May. You do not even have to have any interest in royalty to know that. The famous ocean liner was not the Queen May.

The authors also said that George V was Queen Elizabeth's father. Actually he was her grandfather. George VI ( younger brother of abdicated Edward VIII ) was her father.

At first I wondered if the queen's missing "r" was just a typo. If so it would have to be a typo in the narrative half a dozen times, and once in the historical footnote.

School Days

So far Kyra seems to be enjoying Grade One. The students are all lumped together still and today they will spend their time with each of the three teachers. By Friday all the final numbers from the school district will be in and the kids will be sorted out into their respective classes. It seems rather an odd way to do it. I guess it makes it easier to add in late registrants or something.

Oh well, at least Kyra appears to be unfazed by it. She's a rather quiet, observant little girl and she figures things out well.

I miss her though. Kyle does too.

Happy Birthday Nana!

Well, actually my dear Nana passed away a couple of years ago. Today would have been her 90th birthday. She was a neat lady and we always had lots of fun. I was fortunate to have both of my grand-mothers around for a long time. Toni and I will have to have a toast to her at dinner tonight. We aren't doing anything fancy, just steaks on the grill. We got a nice bottle of red wine as a house warming gift, so that will make a for a good toast. Nana never did mind a little drink occasionally.

Cheers!

Happy Labour Day Weekend!

I didn't get SOM on the q-snaps until today. Then I whipped off an hour of the top right corner ( 25,00 shades of grey ).

This week I spent with my current scrapbook instead. I managed to finish up until the end of Sept. 2001. Now it's put away while I save up some $$. I always seem to run out of everything at the same time and now I need a bunch of stickers and paper.

Toni brought me a copy of Macromedia's "Dreamweaver" book from his office. I will be messing around with my stitching page in the near future. He also said that we could put our pages on the office server since they have a ton of room. I also am taking over the running of the office web site as Toni doesn't have time any more. If anyone has used Dreamweaver before and has tips for me I would greatly appreciate it. I have previously used Front Page.

Have a great long weekend everyone!
